After more than a month of hard work & careful research, MagiPack Games got supercharged with WordPress! It is no longer hosted on Google’s Blogger and there are no more dead links (separated with an interval) for anti-takedown reasons. It’s now more clean, sexy & responsive.
What happened with the MediaFire links?
Back in late September 2024 my (main) mediafire account got taken down for 2 reasons:
- Bill Birnie
- Random reddit idiots who posted my mediafire links which resulted in automated bots DMCAing the links to mediafire and after multiple notices the account got suspended (I see that you sincerely tried to help other clueless people but that was not the proper way to do so)
After that event took place, we formed a small collective in our Discord server and managed to upload the whole MPG library to my Archive.org account, that is, after multiple trial & errors, and then the Internet Archive (IA) went down for almost a month.
At that very same time I was renovating my bathroom from the ground up and one of my friends joked that during the drilling (canalization replacement process) I accidentally cut IA’s optic fibers 😂 (obviously not true), and I had little to no time to work on this project.
Fast forward to November 2024, I was looking for a reliable file hoster but none of it could be found (well, there is one but it’s exclusive for dudes like FitGirl, DODI, and the etc.). The pricing was okay for me but, after thinking a bit further, I saw that this was not viable for several reasons and it would be a waste of time for me personally in the long run.
Then… I thought, why not make the files bulletproof? What? How? By using BitTorrent. What are you going to do now Billy, take down the whole Internet because of that? Experimented a little bit with a few repacks and it worked quite good. Then on December 8th, 2024 I acquired a seedbox with a 20G pipe. And so I began working on replacing all traditional download links with magnets. It worked unbelievably well, until….
Until it was time to move on from Google’s Blogger platform. The emails list used to be longer if I hadn’t kept deleting the old emails.
On December 31st, 2024, the decision was made. On January 1st, 2025 I began this massive work & effort. I rebuilt the site from scratch, no lazy Blogger backup imports.
Why did you not make the site in WordPress in the first place but chose Google Blogger when you knew that things would go haywire sooner or later?
Because I did this for the lulz! Back in 2020 (the year of science) during the ClownVid-2019 lockdowns I was bored having nothing else to do and I suddenly decided that I wanted to replay a good old game of mine – Driver – You are the Wheelman. I tinkered with it for some time and got it repacked into an installer for easier future use (for my own personal use). A day or two later, the whole idea came to me in a dream (I kid you not). Crystal clear picture. I knew I had to do it and the very next day the website was set up in Blogger (which is honestly easier than WordPress).
I never expected to reach 6+ million pageviews (pageviews is not the same as unique visitors but it’s still something over nothing).
The BitTorrent approach
BitTorrent (magnet links) is not the same as traditional file downloading from file hosters, it has advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages
- Can be faster than traditional file hosting, depending on the overall swarm (peers) and how many seeders a torrent has.
- Can be a real “bulletproof” alternative, if people just understood how it works and seeded the God-damned torrents! Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world…
- Multiple seedboxes can be combined so that the same torrent is seeded in parallel and the download link (magnet) stays the same
Disadvantages
- Exposes your IP to the whole swarm (In some countries you can be fined for that! Use a VPN if not sure and bind it to your bittorrent client! Search Google for more info.)
- If torrents are not seeded at all then you can never leech (download) the file!
- Can be slow, depending on the swarm (peers), if a torrent is seeded by 2 people, each uploading at 512 KB/s then you (the 3rd peer) will be leeching (downloading) the torrent (file) at 1 MB/s even if your internet connection can reach 10 MB/s!
Here is a picture of how BitTorrent works in a nutshell:
Meanwhile traditional file hosters (mediafire for example) guarantee that the file is hosted on their servers and it will be always available for download (assuming that it doesn’t get taken down for DMCA reasons), here is a picture of what can happen in a sudden without warning (FileDitch.com):
New to BitTorrent? Don’t know how to download? Check out my short tutorial.
Please, I beg you to seed the torrent(s) that you leech (download) for as long as possible, not just hit & run. This way we can all truly make the files bulletproof!
Going ad-free
Yes, that is correct. No more ads! If you saw my other picture with the emails, I can no longer rely on Google AdSense as they also threaten to close my account (and I need it). Switching to another ad publisher is also not an option because they all comply with DMCA in one form or another. Also, viruses from fake “download” buttons was the other reason to get rid of ads.
Now with the magnet links and the ad-free experience, you can no longer blame (specifically) MagiPack Games that your Steam/Discord account got pwned because you clicked on the wrong “download” link. Yeah, keep downloading from other shady sites and YouTube “tutorials”, you might win a Darwin trophy award.
Archive.org repository
All of my repacks have been uploaded to my archive.org account – https://archive.org/details/@magitompg
This account is being managed by me and my Discord colleague, for the sole reason that Archive.org severely limits the upload speed to people living outside of the USA and for me personally uploading for example 1GB file it would take me around 16 hours which is unacceptable. We will try to keep the repacks updated there, hopefully the account doesn’t get doomed by DMCA.
What do you plan to do next, long-term?
I will focus more on updating older repacks (made between 2020 – 2022), my repacking skills have evolved quite a long way, new repacks are not only “future-proofed” but they are also multilingual (whenever possible). I can also “crack” some easy DRM protections here and there. Don’t worry, I will also make new repacks. But now currently I need to take a short break and update my systems which should take around 2 weeks.
And now that everything has been cleared out (hopefully), let’s continue to the list of:
