The Chronicles of Narnia – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Description

Experience the world of C.S Lewis and Andrew Adamson’s book and film. Play as Susan, Edmund, Lucy and Peter from the film, and journey through the Professor’s house, the forests of Narnia, and escape the attack on London during World War II.

Depending on which level you’re playing, you’ll be able to play as at least two of the four children, although some levels require you to use all four. The four children all have different special abilities. Peter is the strongest of the bunch, so you can use him for fighting off enemies or breaking through barriers. Susan is a ranged fighter and she can throw arrows, tennis balls, and snowballs. Edmund is a decent melee fighter who can climb trees and walk on ice without breaking it. Lucy has the ability to heal the other children, go through small spaces and stand on big snowballs, and make them roll. During each level, you can switch between characters at any time.

Scattered throughout the levels are coins, pink and green gems, and hidden shields that will give ratings at the end of the levels, ranging from fair to outstanding. …

F.E.A.R.

Description

F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon is a horror first person shooter (FPS) that resembles a cross between Doom 3, Half-Life, and the Ring horror movies. Demons are replaced by cloned soldiers and the element of horror revolves around an image of a spectral girl always appearing when least expected for a few fleeting moments.

The player sets out as a member of a specialized strike force dealing with unknown threats. Initially, the player starts with mundane weapons, which are well presented, and progress gradually towards more sci-fi ones as the danger increases. The player can also call upon a bullet-time ability which slows down time around the player and is realised with impressive visual and aural effects by the game engine.

The game takes place in a certain multi-billion aerospace installation which has been hijacked by an elite team of cloned soldiers gone rogue and an unknown supernatural force (which is likely controlling or affecting them in some way). Both threats must be identified and countered. …

Cossacks II – Napoleonic Wars

Description

The sequel to Cossacks, Cossacks 2: Napoleonic Wars is set in the 18th–19th century and involves Europe and parts of Africa. Surprisingly it has little to do with Napoleon. You can play as six nations, all of which have their own units and available tactics (the British can use congreve rockets, the Egyptians can use Taureg mercenaries, etc). There are over 140 different unit types available.

Some of the changes from the original Cossacks are that the economic and empire-building parts of the game have been de-emphasised and combat is given a higher priority. Also, there’s the inclusion of factors such as morale and fatigue. If your troops are exhausted and you force them to fight a battle, they’ll have weak morale and will probably break ranks and run after suffering a few casualties. Terrain also has a big impact, trees will shield your men against bullets and shrapnel and if your men are firing from a hill they’ll receive an attack bonus.

There’s a campaign mode, a series of pre-set battles, a Conquer Europe mode, and the traditional start-from-scratch mode in the original Cossacks. …

Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology

Description

As its predecessor, Blitzkrieg, Blitzkrieg 2 is a real-time strategy game set during World War 2 featuring three campaigns. Typical for the Blitzkrieg series is that no base building or resource gathering is required. The player starts a mission with some core units, with which he should accomplish the given goals. During the missions, additional backup troops can be called in.

The three campaigns are: * USA’s war in the Pacific

– Germany fighting in Europe and North Africa
– Soviet Union defending the homeland

Compared to the first part, the game engine is upgraded, allowing for full 3D, and there are more units, over 250. The game also contains a unit database, providing information on all these units, of which there exists an online version on the official website. …

SWAT 4

Description

In the fourth game of the venerable SWAT series, you play as a Special Weapons and Tactics element commander at a fictional police department. Using realistic SWAT tactics, you must command your four man team to deal with high risk situations while minimizing casualties. But this is not a game for the itchy trigger finger. You must follow strict rules of engagement, and shooting a suspect before he or she points a gun at someone will cost you.

Using a variety of weapons, such as standard assault rifles or less lethal weapons ranging from beanbag shotguns to Tazers to modified paintball guns that shoot pepper spray balls, you can maneuver the two man squads that make up your five man (including you) element independently or together, as well as get useful recon from snipers (who you can control through a picture-in-picture interface).

The game has a single player career mode as well as an Instant Action mode that generates a random mission using an existing map. You can also customize objectives for a single player mission. Multiplayer includes team-based SWAT vs. suspects games as well as cooperative play with up to five players. …

FIFA 06

Description

Featuring a brand new engine (replacing the one used in five titles since FIFA 2003), FIFA 06 features new controls and gameplay, the most visible being more animations and better-detailed ball and player physics and animation, the removal of the unpopular Off the Ball controls implemented in their 2004 version and remaking the free-kick interface so it’s no longer obvious if the player decided for a shot on goal or a pass to a forward. Also new is the concept of “Team Chemistry” which affects how well a team plays collectively.

Featuring 26 leagues from 19 countries, 29 real stadiums and over 10’000 players with data for the 2005-06 seasons, as well as international teams, the game kept the “Create a player” feature as well as the many managing options untouched from previous versions. Career mode, the 15-year long climb to the top of the game, features new options such as sponsorships (which will only accept good results), player contracts and more weight on the player morale: a demoralized player (usually from not playing or possible influence from random events) is more likely to underperform as well as pressuring the “Team Chemistry” values downwards and might refuse attempts to renew his contract, leaving on a free transfer. …
