Sonic Unleashed

Description

During a fight on one of Dr. Eggman’s spaceships, Sonic becomes caught in a nefarious trap! Eggman uses a device to extract the Chaos Emeralds’ power, and inverts it, sending a blast to the planet below which shatters Earth into pieces, reawakening a being called Dark Gaia. With Sonic no longer of use to him, Dr. Eggman quickly jettisons him and the now dead Chaos Emeralds into space, where he crash-lands on the Earth below.

Sonic Unleashed is a combination of two types of games: during daytime stages, Sonic is his normal self, with intense speed-based levels that are reminiscent of his original games. When night falls, Sonic transforms into a monstrous, yet powerful ‘Werehog’ with stretchy arms. In nighttime stages, he must brawl his way through 3D environments crawling with Dark Gaia’s minions.

As players defeat enemies in both types of stages, they earn experience which allows them to level both Sonic’s normal and Werehog abilities, such as speed, strength, life, combat and so on. There are also 3D hub worlds to be explored during both day and night, with different events occurring in each. Sonic can help the townsfolk with tasks for items and rewards, or purchase items from shops using the rings he’s collected throughout the stages.

Sonic’s buddy Tails also makes an appearance during stages where they fly his plane. During these stages, you must press the appropriate button sequences as they appear to shoot down any oncoming enemies. …

The gameplay from the original franchise has once again been adapted, simplified, and turned into a fixed-storyline experience. A secondary, more classic and open-ended mode is available as well. This entry in the series introduces an entirely new setting for the franchise as it takes place on an uncharted, tropical island with jungle, beaches and volcanoes.

In the story mode players control Jessica who washes ashore with almost no belongings. She has to explore the island, find shelter, make fire, learn to hunt for food, and befriend the natives and the other castaways. …

Fallout 3

Description

After World War II, rapid technology development carried humans towards a supposedly bright future, fulfilling their eternal dream. But eventually war raged again and in the year 2077, the dream suddenly came to a halt and mushroom clouds dominated the sky. A few communities survived in their underground bunkers called “Vaults”; others mutated heavily. Overall, what was left of the world was nothing more than a nuclear wasteland filled with ruins of a once great civilization. Two hundred years later, the human kind slowly but surely leaves the vaults and reclaims the lands of Earth.

The protagonist is one of them. As a member of Vault 101 in the wasteland surrounding the city formerly known as Washington D.C. and now called “Capital Wasteland”, raised under the tight rule of the Overseer and the watchful eye of his father, he doesn’t know anything about what is outside. But on his nineteenth birthday, his father unexpectedly leaves the vault. The hero’s goal is to find him, learning part of the truth about what the Overseer concealed all these years on the way.

Fallout 3 is a role-playing game with elements of a 3D shooter. It retains many elements of the previous games in the series, while somewhat shifting the emphasis from social interaction and ethical role-playing to exploration of an open, continuous 3D world and combat. The player is free to explore the game’s world from the beginning, visiting many optional locations, talking to characters and completing side quests. The main quest line, however, is largely linear, posing moral choices to the player only during its final phase. …

Conflict – Denied Ops

Description

Lincoln Graves is a 47-year old ex-Special Forces sniper and Reggie Lang is a former FBI-heavy weapons specialist. Graves doesn’t really like Lang but they are now both agents of the CIA’s Special Activities Division and their mission is to prevent a third-world dictatorship from gaining nuclear weapons.

This mission takes the team across three continents and through hordes of bad guys. To deal with them, both Lang and Graves have access to several types of weapons from pistols over snipers to machine guns, rocket launchers and several different kinds of grenades. But they also earn upgrades for these weapons after successfully finishing a mission. The first upgrade to Graves’s 7.62m Sniper Rifle for example allows the player to fire a bullet around the corner or over low cover.

Since Lang and Graves are a team, the player is free to switch between both at any time and give orders to the currently AI-controlled comrade, including simple tasks like “Follow Me” or “Cover Me”, but they can also complete an objective by themselves or bring the player’s character back into the game when he took one bullet too much. …

Far Cry 2

Description

Those who were not able to leave the land now hide in their homes while in the streets death reigns the day. But as bad as it has been, now it is even worse with shipments of modern weapons entering the land despite a weapons embargo. Sadly, after the player enters the country he immediately infects himself with malaria. Now he has to fight two enemies at the same time.

The game puts the player in a 50 square kilometers big area in which he can do what he wants with only the goal to find and kill “The Jackal” and survive the disease. But to do so he needs weapons, vehicles and, most importantly, pills to hold the malaria in check. To get all that he gets missions like escort a weapons shipment or kill the head of police from the various factions and NPCs in the world which increase his reputation (access to better gear and missions) and gain the only currency in the game: diamonds. The world can be freely explored, but taking out certain enemies or visiting specific locations often only becomes relevant when the right quest has been triggered. …

Turok

Description

Turok is a first-person shooter game set in the near future. There is no relationship with the previous games or the storyline from the comic books. The protagonist is Joseph Turok, a former member of Wolf Pack (the enemy in this game), but now a member of Whiskey Company. The mission that led to the events of the game was simple: find Roland Kane (leader of Wolf Pack, and Turok’s former mentor) and bring him back to Earth. However, things turned ugly, as the ship was hit by a missile and crashed on the back-water planet. Even worse, it becomes apparent that scientists from the Mendel Gruman Corporation have been terra-forming the planet for accelerated evolution, resulting in dinosaurs hunting Turok, his allies, and his enemy. Joseph Turok’s mission is to survive at all costs.

Gameplay is about surviving in dangerous environments with both human soldiers and dinosaurs. The dinosaurs can be used as a tool to eliminate soldiers by luring them. All weapons have secondary functions such as a flares to lure dinos. Turok can also choose a stealthy approach with arrows and his trusty knife, in the form of brutal kills. Online multiplayer is also featured, with all the weapons from the single-player game, and some maps have dinos and giant scorpions. The gameplay modes include classics like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and all-new modes borrowed from objective-based war games, such as Assault Capture the flag, and co-op missions. They all have a little twist to them, such as CTF putting a lure on the “flag carrier” that draws dinos to the player. …
