Age of Empires III

Description

Age of Empires III is the third installment in the series of real-time strategy games. The main idea of the gameplay remains unchanged: with the limited amount of resources and a handful of settlers, you must think about the expansion of your colony. Besides the strong economic thread, you should also think about the development of your army. Like in the previous games your people start in an early part of humanity’s history and progress to new ages (up to the industrial age) with better weapons and other possibilities.

The game offers you a complex single-player campaign that is divided into 24 missions and three acts. You take the role of Morgan Black and his family which struggle against a mysterious European cult. You can also challenge yourself in the multiplayer mode where you can command one of the eight European powers (from French to Russian). A new addition to the game mechanics is the home city in Europe which regularly sends supplies or military reinforcements. It is persistent and after multiplayer successes you gain the ability to upgrade it through a tech tree. …

Age of Mythology

Description

Age of Mythology is a spin-off title from the Age of Empires series of real-time strategy games, sharing most of its gameplay with prior titles in the series. However, as opposed to the numerous civilizations that are present in Age of Empires which differ in statistics, tech tree availability and a few unique units and upgrades, Age of Mythology has three factions which differ visually and functionally in their entirety – the Greek, the Egyptians, and the Norse. Each civilization has a different economic model, a different tech tree and unit roster, a different play style, and a different way to acquire favor from their gods.

Other than introducing a 3D engine, the main feature that Age of Mythology brings are myth units and heroes, as well as choosing gods to worship. Gods are split to major and minor ones – major gods act as subfactions (not unlike “countries” in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2) which have their own bonuses and abilities, and each major god has a selection of two minor gods for each age transition. Each minor god brings their own unique units, upgrades and god ability, and only one can be chosen per age. …

Alone in the Dark 5

Description

It has been 83 years since Edward Carnby investigated the suicide of Jeremy Hartwood. Now he wakes up in an apartment in New York and is moments away from being shot by a group of bad guys. He doesn’t remember much and as he looks into a mirror, a man looks back at him that isn’t even near the age of 80. But as all hell breaks loose and mysterious forces tear through the building and the city itself, the question about his looks becomes one of many. To make things even worse, an old enemy decides to return in a search for a powerful stone. So for Carnby a race for survival begins and all signs point to Central Park.

Edward’s mysterious journey is divided into eight episodes that can be played in chronological order or can be accessed directly from the main menu. Once in the game, the player controls Edward either in a 1st-person or a 3rd-person manner either by switching manually or depending on the situation and what item he uses. If he picks up a fire extinguisher for example, the player will be able to extinguish fires with it if he is in 1st-person mode. In 3rd-person mode it instead becomes a deadly weapon or a battering ram. …

AquaNox

Description

In this sequel to Archimedean Dynasty, the player once again controls Emerald “Dead-Eye” Flint, the hero from the first game. Five years after Archimedean Dynasty, the underwater metropolis Neopolis, capital city of the Atlantic Federation, is a battlefield. It is a battle between the government and a new, hard line. Admiral Cox, well known from the previous installment, has to decide – and he really has problems with this decision…

Like its predecessor, AquaNox is a hybrid of submarine simulation and shooter. The game contains more than thirty single player missions and nine different player vessels. Flint earns money by completing missions, allowing him to purchase better submarines, weapons and equipment. Outside the submarine, Flint can visit stations, talk to NPCs, and receive missions from them. Unlike the first game, the player’s view is fixed to the cockpit in this installment, and the controls resemble more those of a first-person shooter. The defensive turret system has been replaced by two cannons that can be installed on the hull. …

AquaNox 2 – Revelation

Description

It is the 27th century, and humanity has fled the surface of the Earth, plagued by radioactivity, into the depths of the ocean. William Drake is the last offspring of an old aristocratic family. After the death of his grandmother, the young man sails off on a freighter belonging to Drake Enterprises. Soon, a group of mercenaries attack his vessel and take control of it. The attackers spare William’s life, but he has no other choice but to link his fate to theirs from that moment on.

Like its predecessor, AquaNox 2: Revelation is a hybrid of submarine simulation and first-person shooter. Four different gunships can be controlled and upgraded by the player throughout the course of the game. The vessels have different characteristics and often have to be chosen for particular missions, e.g. one that requires stealth or heavy plating to withstand attacks. Torpedoes and energy-based weapons can be used to combat the foes. The ship’s controls can be switched between the FPS mode and the Simulation mode, in which the submarine is controlled more realistically. …

Archimedean Dynasty

Description

In the future, resources became increasingly scarce, leading to continuous wars between various countries on Earth. The surface of the planet became so polluted that it was impossible for humanity to live on it any more. Nuclear explosions covered the outside world, and humans fled into the depths of the ocean. Soon, the continents were flooded, and nuclear winter imprisoned the Earth. However, humans continued to live in the stations on the ocean’s bottom, in a new world without sunlight – a world called Aqua.

By the middle of the 27th century, Aqua has been divided into the democratic Atlantic Federation, the oligarchy of the Arabic Clans Union, and the monarchist Russo-Japanese Shogunate. A mercenary named Emerald “Deadeye” Flint is hired by a man called El Topo to escort a sulfur-transporting cargo ship, and gets kidnapped by a group of Shogunate mercenaries in the process. For unknown reasons, their female leader Hong Long helps Flint escape. As Flint begins to undertake missions to repay his debt to El Topo, he becomes involved in a political struggle, unable to distinguish friend from foe. …

Assassin’s Creed

Description

In the year 2012, a seemingly ordinary bartender named Desmond Miles is abducted by a mysterious organization. The captors attach Desmond to a strange device called “Animus”, which allows him to access the memory of his ancestor, an assassin named Altaïr. For some reason, the reconstruction of Altaïr’s memories is vital to the captors.

After accessing Altaïr’s memory, Desmond is able to experience the events that took place in the Holy Land in the year 1191, the time of the Third Crusade. Al Mualim, the leader of the assassins, orders Altaïr to kill nine prominent historical figures, who supposedly let war and corruption take over the Holy Land.

During most of the game, the player controls Altaïr; however, it is clearly indicated that controlling him is a part of Desmond’s experience. The player is also able to control Desmond between his sessions in the “Animus”.

The game’s most innovative feature is the freedom of choice and movement. Every architectural detail like window ledges, carvings in the stone or wooden bars can be used to move on the walls. This allows the player to have intense chase scenes if by any chance you’re hunted by the guard. …
