Combat

Description

Loosely based on the tank portion of the Atari 2600 cart that originally came packed with the console, Combat brings tank warfare into 3D. There is both a single player mode, in which the player must advance through 30 levels, and multi-player mode, which allows deathmatch style play.

Just as in the Atari 2600 game, the tanks’ turrets do not turn. However, the tanks turn quicker and hover, rather than relying on treads. This allows them to slide left and right, as well as forward and back.

In single player mode, the player must find the exit in each level to advance. The levels range from the simple “shoot and destroy until the exit appears” to the complicated “journey back and forth destroying the enemies required to open gates.” There are also levels in which a “boss” must be defeated to advance. …

The Incredible Hulk – The Pantheon Saga

Description

The Incredible Hulk is an isometric 3D action game.

The popular Marvel comic book hero The Hulk returns to the PC, Playstation and Saturn systems to battle tons of lowly enemies and the occasional monstrous super-villain. When the lawful Pantheon society of superheroes kidnaps the green giant, he joins forces with his abductors and smashes through 13+2 isometric 3D levels (in a look reminiscent of the Loaded series of games).

True to the comic books, the Hulk relies on no other weapons than his massive muscles to punch, kick and crush his enemies. When he has accumulated enough gamma energy, he may use powerful special moves like a Vortex Spin or the Floor Hammer. Rare bonus items also allow the Hulk to summon one of the four Pantheon team members Atalanta, Ulysses, Ajax and Hector to assist in the thick of battle.

Most levels include at least one arch-enemy, such as Piecemeal, Trauma & Lazarus or the U-Foes. Luckily, the Hulk’s regenerative powers allow him to regain health slowly. Little seems to be left of the Hulk’s legendary leaping capacity, however, so the green meat ball is forced to hop from platform to platform every now and then. …

Aliens versus Predator

Description

Aliens Versus Predator is a sci-fi first-person shooter based on the associated two film franchises. The game has three playable species, and each has its own single-player campaign with different missions and plotlines.

– Aliens – Their only weapons are their own body parts: claws for close combat, their deadly tail, and their inner mouth that can crack through an enemy’s skull (for an instant kill) if close enough. They are deadly at close range, and can heal by eating corpses or the heads of unsuspecting enemies. They can’t be hurt through falls, and an alternate vision mode allows them to see clearly ahead through darkness. Their strength lies in flexibility and speed, and an ability to cling to walls and run along any surface – allowing a skilled player to escape or ambush from literally any 3D direction.

– Humans – U.S. Marines, as portrayed by Michael Biehn in the film ‘Aliens’. Marines have strong firepower that ranges from the self-tracking SmartGun, all the way to rocket launchers and devistating six-barrel miniguns (as seen in ‘Predator’). The Marines are the most familiar species to play as, with the gameplay style of typical FPS hero. However, their frailty at close range, and missions that leave them stranded, alone, surrounded by bloodthirsty extraterrestrials, make their experience closer to survival horror. …

Aliens versus Predator 2

Description

On planet LV1201, ancient alien ruins have been discovered. The Weyland-Yutani corporation sets up a research facility in the area, to study and unlock the secrets of the excavation. When xenomorphic (alien) eggs are found, Dr. Eisenberg is assigned command of the scientific progress. Weyland-Yutani also hires a band of mercenaries, under the command of discharged General Rykov to act as security of the facility. As time passes, observation pods are set up to observe an artificial xenomorphic hive. The xenomorphs however manage to escape containment and the resulting chaos sends out a distress call, which attracts the attention of the “Predator” alien species, as well as dispatching a colonial marine vessel, the USS Verloc, to render aid. Three intertwined campaigns tell the story: that of human marine Lt. Harrison, a newly hatched xenomorph and a Predator clan leader.

Aliens Versus Predator 2 is a first person shooter. Players can choose to begin a campaign as Alien, Predator, or a Colonial Marine, each with their own unique abilities and weapons.

The Marine plays as a standard FPS, with the player needing to pick up weapons, ammunition and health items. The screen shows the player’s health percentage as well as armor. Some of the weapons include flamethrowers, miniguns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers and smart guns. The marine also carries a motion tracker which displays movement around the player. To see in the darkness the marine uses a shoulder-mounted flashlight or night vision, both of which drain battery power (which recharges on its own after a time). The marine can also toss flares which burn for a short time. In the single player mode, Harrison is a technician and handles a wielding torch and a ComTech Hacking Device which can be used to “hack” certain circuit boards. …
