Hype – The Time Quest

Description

King Taskan IV celebrates the end of a civil war. The valiant warrior Hype is given the Sword of Peace for his heroic deeds and his loyalty to the throne. However, a mysterious black knight named Barnak appears and casts a powerful spell on Hype, turning him into a statue and sending him two hundred years into the past. The magician Gogoud brings Hype back to life, and the brave knight has to figure out a way to return to his own time, defeat Barnak, and marry his sweetheart Vibe.

Based on the medieval castle toy series from Playmobil, Hype: The Time Quest is an action game with puzzle-solving and light role-playing elements, similar in style to 3D installment of the Zelda series. Hype primarily fights with close-range weapons, though he can also cast offensive spells in three elemental categories. Hostile areas occupy the largest portion of the game; Hype will explore dungeons, face boss monsters, and will have to hunt for quest items needed to advance the story. Spider-Man – The Sinister Six

Description

Marvel Comics Spider-Man: The Sinister Six features the wall-crawling superhero Spider-Man, trying to defeat six of his arch-enemies, The Sinister Six: Dr. Octopus, Hobgoblin, Shocker, Chameleon, Mysterio, and Vulture. The player will control both Spider-Man and his alter-ego Peter Parker.

At heart, this is an adventure game. It consists of conversing with people and solving puzzles. From time to time, the player must choose which presented event he will pursue, leading the narrative one way or another. Six different story lines and outcomes are possible. Puzzles are of the type “break the code”, or “decrypt the message”.

Every time a member of The Sinister Six is encountered, a boss fight mini-game has to be won. It’s possible to practice these combat sequences without playing the main game. …

Spider-Man 2 – Activity Center

Description

Released alongside Activision’s more action-oriented interpretation of the summer 2004 film, the Spider-Man 2 Activity Center features seven movie-based puzzles and mini-games that younger children can play on the PC. Each of these activities is based on a particular scene from the movie, and all are designed to educate while they entertain. The games have three difficulty settings, to accommodate players in the four- to eight-year-old age range. The voices of film stars Tobey Maguire (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) and Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus) are featured, and players who successfully complete activities can print out special certificates featuring graphics from the film.

Description

Bone: Out From Boneville is the first graphic adventure title released by Telltale Games, a company founded by former LucasArts employees. Out From Boneville is based on the identically named comic book created by Jeff Smith, and it’s the first installment in the episodic Bone game series.

The game follows exactly the plot of the book, namely it begins with the introduction of cousins Fone, Phone, and Smiley Bone, who are lost in the desert after they fled their hometown Boneville. Their goal is to get back to Boneville, but due to several twists of fate their journey takes them to other places.

Using a traditional 3D point-and-click interface, the player must guide the three cousins through all quests, where they meet the red dragon, the rat creatures, Ted the bug, the possum kids, Thorn and Gran’ma Ben. …

Bone 2 – The Great Cow Race

Description

The Great Cow Race is the second installment in Telltale’s Bone adventure series. The three cousins Phoney, Fone and Smiley Bone have been chased out of Boneville, and end up at a farm under attack by rats. Thorn, Grand’ma Ben and Fone prepare to attend the spring festival at Barrelhaven, where a cow race is about to take place. The three main characters have different quests to solve, with interfering actions, similar to Day of the Tentacle. Smiley needs to find a cow costume to enter the race, Phoney has to influence the betting, and Fone tries to win back the heart of his lost love.

The game uses a 3D engine and a point-and-click interface. There is a backpack to store items, you can switch between characters, and there are optional hints. The mini-games from the first act have made place for more adventure elements. …

DuckTales – The Quest for Gold

Description

This game follows the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie.

The aim of the game is shown in the introduction. Flintheart Glomgold challenges Scrooge to a competition to see who the richest duck in the world is. They each have 30 days to see who can get the most money together and finally their dispute will be settled.

Scrooge’s office is your headquarters. Here you have three options – you can go exploring for treasure, play the stock market or dive into your money bin, occasionally finding a rare coin which adds to you treasure total. You need to get some money first before you can play the stock market though.

Your main source of income comes from the exploration map which hangs on the wall. From here, you can pick a destination, which you can travel to. There are four different scenarios when travelling to various parts of the world. It’s these levels that are the most fun. You can choose to go mountain climbing, jungle bashing, search a cavern, or photograph some rare animals depending on your location. On-screen information tells you which scenario it is, how long the trip will take and how much the treasure is worth. There’s also an island in the Indian Ocean you can visit to check on who’s winning between you and Glomgold. …

Description

Future technology paved way to the creation of hovercrafts, which began to gradually replace motorized vehicles. Ben is the leader of the Polecats, one of the toughest biker gangs on the road. One day he drives over and damages a hovercraft limousine which belongs to Malcolm Corley, owner of Corley Motors, the last domestic motorcycle manufacturer. Later, Ben is having a bit of good clean fun at the Kick Stand Bar when Corley drops by for a bit of reminiscing. This leads to a meeting with Corley Motors’ vice president Adrian Ripburger, who has his own sinister plans concerning the company, the Polecats, and the future of motorized vehicles. Ben refuses to co-operate and must now face the consequences and do everything in his power to bring Ripburger to justice.

Full Throttle is a third-person puzzle-solving adventure game. The graphics are cartoon-style, similarly to LucasArts’ previous adventure games Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max Hit The Road. The game features a revamped interface: instead of choosing a command verb or an action icon and then interacting with an object, the player can now simply point at it, and the available action icons will appear automatically. These include the standard “use”, “examine”, and “speak” actions, but also a separate foot icon for kicking. …
