Area 51 (1996)

Description

Using a light gun you blast your way through the secret base, Area 51, which has been taken over by mutant aliens. As you work your way to the secrets at the heart of Area 51, you’ll need to destroy an increasingly dangerous line of aliens, upgrade your firearm, and cause as much collateral damage as possible. The game rewards the player for destroying windows, light fixtures, computers, explosive barrels, and even fire extinguishers. Each consecutive hit increases your streak rating (which adds to your score) and certain combinations of these collateral hits will open up secret bonus rooms.

The home version has special bonuses and additional secret levels not found in the arcade version and a mouse option is available. …

KISS Pinball

Description

“You wanted the best, you got the best!” states the box cover of KISS Pinball, quoting a KISS trademark. But calling something the best doesn’t make it so — a budget game without accurate physics, KISS Pinball is at most an average game, one only a diehard KISS fan might really appreciate. Even a fan, though, is certain to be disappointed to learn that KISS music is absent from the game — there’s just a generic looping hard-rock style soundtrack.

Players familiar with modern computer pinball games won’t find anything new here. Most of the normal features are evident, but there are no surprises and only the bare minimum in design has been accomplished. The physics are a bit shoddy, evidenced by ball movement that isn’t quite as responsive as that in a real pinball machine or video pinball games of higher quality. The ball bounces off objects at a linear speed, rather than slowing down from friction and gravity and, at other times, doesn’t bounce at all when it should, making it too easy to catch with a flipper. As a result, the game feels stiff and non-responsive. …

Screamer

Description

Lights blur. The crowd whizzes past. Your helmet rattles against the roll bar and the competition switches into overdrive. Tears stream from your eyes and the race moves into extreme speed. Tears of sweat. The same stuff that’s seeping off your palms and onto the steering wheel. Get a grip. You’re sliding into a turn at 200 miles per hour and centrifugal force will only carry you so far.

Screamer is a traditional arcade racing game. The player can drive many different cars such as a Corvette, a Porsche 911, and others. The game has varied tracks, all of which are available in backwards mode. Players can take on the Bullet car for the ultimate championship race.

This is velocity-driven, pedal-to-the-metal arcade racing. Strapped into a personally chosen made-for-the-Autobahn racing machine, you’ll scream to redefine fast in this winding 3D ride of pure fun. …
