Blood – One Unit Whole Blood

Description

Caleb was once a feared gunslinger, until he met a woman who was involved with a mysterious cult known as Cabal. Caleb, too, is sucked in, and soon becomes one of the Chosen – the most favored worshippers of the evil god Tchernobog. But one day, Tchernobog inexplicably kills the four Chosen, including Caleb. Mysteriously resurrected years later, Caleb is out to get revenge, and learn why his lord cast him down so abruptly.

Blood is a first-person shooter with horror elements, which uses the Build engine. Similarly to Duke Nukem 3D, the environment is interactive: many objects can be physically moved or affected in other ways. Destruction of landscapes is possible (although only in specific spots), with bullet holes being left by misplaced shots. The Build engine version is 2.5D, so there are rooms above rooms and puzzles which are based on this.

The game consists of four episodes, each containing a set of maps that have to be traversed by the protagonist in a specific order. The levels are usually realistic-looking structures, e.g. a carnival complete with twisted attractions, a city district, a moving train, etc. …

Bad Day L.A.

Description

You play as Anthony Williams, a homeless person in Los Angeles who doesn’t give a shit. One day, as he is again blocking the highway with his shopping cart, a plane full of biowaste crashes into the bridge nearby and one Bad Day in L.A. begins. Soon people begin to mutate into zombies because of the dangerous waste, meteorites come down from the sky, a tsunami makes its way to L.A. and many other bad things happen. The game is a humorous take on the USA’s post-9/11 culture of fear.

Your only goal is to survive. You can do that by either shooting your way through everything and anyone, or helping the people around you. You need to protect them from terrorists, street gangs or zombies with the help of eight weapons from a tire iron to a rocket launcher. But you can also heal the zombies with your fire extinguisher or use it to help burning people. For every action you do, you either get a smiley or a frowney, and depending on how many of these you have collected, the NPCs will have different behaviours. If you behave like a psycho and collect frowneys, everyone will hunt you down and will not help you find your way through the mess. …

Black & White

Description

Spiritual descendant of the Populous games, Black & White is a ‘god’ game in which players take the role of a fledgling deity, called upon by people in need.

Entering the 3D world, players can manipulate objects, move people, and cast miracles. To assist the player, there also exists a creature with its own intelligence and personality. Both the players and their associated creature will evolve during the course of the game, becoming benevolent beings, cruel tyrants, or somewhere in between. As the player’s characters develop, both their creature and the land itself will change, depending on their alignment.

Although the main purpose of the game is to work through the five lands of Eden and win the faith of as many of the tribes as possible, the game is somewhat open ended in its aspects of wandering, exploring, and developing the sidekick creature.

The creatures in the game feature their own artificial intelligence and will grow like a child, both physically and emotionally. They’ll learn by example and put together their own moral codes based on what they witness and learn. Players can pet or scold their creature, nurture it, spoil it, or abuse it. In the end, Black & White is part strategy game, part role-playing game, part child rearing simulator, and part self-examination of the player’s personality. …

Bad Mojo

Description

The story takes place in July 1958 in a rundown bar owned by Eddie Battito. Roger, one of Eddie’s tenants, has stolen a million dollars worth of loan money from a science corporation he had previously worked for and is planning to leave for Mexico City to start a new life. But after a small argument with Eddie, he remembers a little trinket that he had gotten in his early childhood: a cockroach-patterned locket that belonged to his deceased mother, Angelina. Upon its discovery, the locket transforms Roger’s soul into a cockroach, and transports him to a mysterious sewer system connected to every section of the bar. His adventure takes him to the basement (which is also Eddie’s bedroom), the bathroom, the kitchen, the bar room, Roger’s room and finally his research room. As the roach (Roger) explores a world filled with danger at every turn, including rats, garbage disposals, and his own pet cat, Franz, he is constantly being guided by his mother’s spirit, who serves as an oracle.

The game explores the sad past of both Roger and Eddie, revealing that Roger had been abandoned to an abusive nun, was the center of bullying as a young man, and was never taken seriously by his superiors. Eddie has had just as bad a life, having his beloved wife die during childbirth and giving up his son out of grief and his livelihood stumbling. Eddie does not realize that his wife, Angelina, was Roger’s mother, nor does Roger know that Angelina was Eddie’s wife. During Roger’s exploration, he is forced to extinguish the pilot light to a gas stove in the kitchen to save a baby cockroach that, in turn, assists him in jamming the garbage disposal with a spoon. This act eventually causes the whole bar to be filled with gas. Roger must then set off a smoke detector to wake Eddie and then finally reach the locket in his own unconscious body’s hand. With both men safely out of the bar when it explodes, Roger and Eddie discover that they are, in fact, father and son, which was exactly as the oracle planned. …

Black & White 2

Description

The sequel to Lionhead’s open-ended god game, Black & White, attempts to offer more focused gameplay and larger scale. The player assumes yet again the role of a God and chooses if he will be Good, Evil or something in between.

As a deity that interferes directly with mortal affairs, the player will help his followers, the Greeks, survive and prosper in a mythical land. A good god will improve the city of his followers and eventually attract the inhabitants of neighbouring hamlets, be they neutral or even hostile. An evil god will recruit armies and conquer them.

The player once again has an animal avatar of his choice (between Lion, Ape, Wolf and Cow) which can be trained or left to its own devices. Its A.I. is much more advanced now and revolves around “lessons” learned. Each action it considers to do can be encouraged or discouraged by the player (by slapping or petting) so that a creature does something always/frequently, occasionally, rarely or never. The Creature can harvest, build, entertain, fight, specialize in one of these fields or just wander aimlessly, eat rocks and trees, gag and poop randomly. Depending on its alignment it will also eat or help villagers accordingly. …

Blood 2 – The Chosen

But in order to fulfill his plans, he must get rid of Caleb first.

Like its predecessor, Blood II is a first-person shooter with a horror theme. The game uses the LithTech engine. There is a vast variety of weapons as well as a greater number of different enemies than the previous game. The levels themselves are rather diverse as well: In the first chapter alone, the protagonist travels from an ornate museum to a huge science facility, alleys of an ominous city street, and a futuristic flying machine. The game features a dark techno soundtrack. The player may choose to play as Caleb’s companions that appeared in the first game; however, cutscenes are displayed only if the player selects Caleb. …
