Blood 2 – The Chosen

Description

Over a hundred years have passed since the events described in Blood. CABAL, the cult dedicated to the worship of the Dark God Tchernobog, has turned into a huge corporation that calls itself “CabalCo”, controlling much of what is happening in the dark, futuristic city. The undead gunslinger Caleb awakens from his slumber and continues his relentless pursuit for revenge. The company CEO, an ambitious man named Gideon, will stop at nothing in order to attain the kind of power CABAL was wielding before. But in order to fulfill his plans, he must get rid of Caleb first.

Like its predecessor, Blood II is a first-person shooter with a horror theme. The game uses the LithTech engine. There is a vast variety of weapons as well as a greater number of different enemies than the previous game. The levels themselves are rather diverse as well: In the first chapter alone, the protagonist travels from an ornate museum to a huge science facility, alleys of an ominous city street, and a futuristic flying machine. The game features a dark techno soundtrack. The player may choose to play as Caleb’s companions that appeared in the first game; however, cutscenes are displayed only if the player selects Caleb. …

Doom 3 (2004)

Description

The third game of the DOOM series (now in full 3D) takes gamers through the depths of Hell, where technology and demons meet. But this time round, the game is more focused on horror elements than previous games in series.

Doom 3 is set in the year 2145, on Mars. You start as an unnamed marine soldier sent to the Red Planet, where a corporation named The Union Aerospace Corporation makes secret experiments based on ancient aliens’ technology. People around the base are on the edge, & something is not right. You receive your first simple mission and when you depart, the game really kicks off.

This third major release of the Doom series is especially based on single player experience. As in most First Person Shooter games, you aim, you shoot, & you run… Enemies are zombified humans from the base or daemons straight from Hell. Doom 3 is much darker visually than previous games – you can use a flashlight in dark corridors, but you must choose between various weapons and the flashlight (the marine can’t use them both in same time.) …

Call of Cthulhu – Dark Corners of the Earth

Description

Detective Jack Walters arrived in Innsmouth to solve a case of a missing person. But soon he finds himself confronted with terrible mysteries older than humanity, and with ghosts of the mysterious events that led to his incarceration in a mental hospital years ago.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is a first-person action-adventure survival horror game, based on the H.P. Lovecraft mythos and his short story “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”.

Initially, CoC: DCotE plays like an adventure game, but soon it gains elements of a stealth game and of a first-person shooter. Notably, the game does not feature an on-screen HUD (not even a crosshair); Jack’s health is hinted at by visual cues; as for ammo, you need to remember how much you have left before you’ll have to reload.

The health system used in the game is uncommon. There is no “hit points” system; rather, Jack receives minor or major wounds in specific parts of the body, and if he breaks a leg he’s slowed down. To heal himself and prevent death from bleeding out, Jack can pick up medikits which contain bandages, splints, sutures and antidotes, each of which is used to heal a specific type of wound. Ill effects emerging from the wounds can be temporarily suppressed with a fix of morphine. …

Requiem – Avenging Angel

Description

The Fallen were a group of angels who mistakenly believed that God was upset with Earth’s corruption and wanted it destroyed. Even after they were banished from Heaven, the Fallen continued to adhere to their belief. They have been bidding their time in the realm of Chaos, waiting for their moment to strike out at human kind.

Finally, that time has come, and the Fallen have taken control of the minds of Earth’s leaders and police force, using them to set up a one world government, oppressing the populace into submission. On top of that, the Fallen are experimenting with Earth’s first interstellar starship, the Leviathan, which was originally created to explore past the Solar system. The new leaders of Earth seem to have other plans for the vessel, which they are re-designing towards some unknown purpose. Eventually, an angel named Malachi is sent to Earth to stop the sinister schemes of the Fallen and their human followers, and save mankind.

Requiem: Avenging Angel is a first-person shooter in which the player controls Malachi, exploring predominantly urban environments and fighting human, robotic, and demonic enemies. Some areas in the city New Damascus, where most of the action takes place, form a seamless location rather than being broken into levels. Most of the stages are populated by enemies, though a few locations contain friendly characters, such as members of a rebel organization who send Malachi on missions. …

Halo Custom Edition

Description

Halo Custom Edition, commonly abbreviated Halo CE, is a standalone, multiplayer-only, expansion for the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved. The expansion was released on March 15, 2004 by Gearbox Software as an unsupported version of the original game. Similar to its PC version, the expansion requires a key-code during installation.

Halo Custom Edition allows players to browse and play user-created content and maps created with modding kits. Modders would use the Halo Editing Kit to incorporate custom models, images, physics, and data into an easily distributed .MAP file, which is compressed and uploaded. The amount of custom content varies widely but is limited by the game engine’s capabilities. A few examples of user-created content may include custom character models that uses an Elite biped instead of the default Spartan biped, a Call of Duty-inspired level or even special animations and effects for weapons, melee and reloading. Most of these user-created content and maps are available in dedicated modding community websites such as Modacity and halomaps.org.

Two small features were added to the game such as the ability to display the specific for the gametype currently being played in the server (by pressing F2), and the ability to display the name of all players in the same team above their respective green arrows (by pressing F3). Additionally, an arguably better net-code was put into Halo: Custom Edition as well. The game has noticeably reduced latency issues compared to Halo PC. …
