SWAT 3 – Close Quarters Battle

Description

After many negotiations, the United Nations Nuclear Abolishment Treaty is about to be signed in L.A., celebrating what’s to be named the “Global Peace Day”. However, the joyous occasion is also seen by domestic and international terrorists as a soapbox for their demands, and it’s up to SWAT to keep everything going as planned. As if terrorist threats are not enough, two portable nuclear demolition devices are for sale… in the L.A. area.

A tactical FPS, the player is in control of a five man strike team, and it’s up to him to guide the other two-man teams to complete each mission, for a total of 16, ranging from dangerous arrests, hostage rescue, VIP escort to track and disarm bombs, while visiting landmarks of the city such as the City Hall or the Convention Center (where the E3 takes place). To help the strike team, each officer has one of four standard-issue weapons to choose from, a sidearm and utilities such as glowsticks, C2 door breaching charges, CS gas, flashbangs and the always useful optiwand, to know what’s after the corner and the Leatherman tool, to disable electronic devices and unlock doors. …

SWAT 4

Using a variety of weapons, such as standard assault rifles or less lethal weapons ranging from beanbag shotguns to Tazers to modified paintball guns that shoot pepper spray balls, you can maneuver the two man squads that make up your five man (including you) element independently or together, as well as get useful recon from snipers (who you can control through a picture-in-picture interface).

The game has a single player career mode as well as an Instant Action mode that generates a random mission using an existing map. You can also customize objectives for a single player mission. Multiplayer includes team-based SWAT vs. suspects games as well as cooperative play with up to five players. …

BlackSite – Area 51

Description

It was supposed to be a routine mission three years ago. Enter a bunker deep inside Iraq-territory, retrieve a chemical weapon and get out. But inside the complex was no chemical weapon. Instead you encounter mutated humans and other strange creatures. With one man down you escape that hell and move on.

Now you are called to Nevada because something terrible happened there (see Area-51) and it affected the nearby city. But you soon realize, that all this has something to do with what you encountered inside the bunker three years ago.

The game is a pretty straight-forward first person shooter. You move through the levels, kill everything that moves and fulfil your objectives. To aid you in that task, you’ve a squad full of people under your command. With the help of cursor-sensitive commands you order them around and let them man a stationary MG for example. But there are also marked points in the levels at which your squad will perform scripted tasks like a door breach. …

AREA-51 (2005)

Description

Area 51, the urban legend, is a U.S. military-controlled base in the Nevada desert, apparently containing a secret aircraft testing facility. It is also famed as the subject of many UFO conspiracy theories. Area-51, the game, is a first-person shooter (FPS) set in this particular base, now infested with rampant aliens and a mutagenic virus that changes your character. As Ethan Cole, Special Forces, specialist in the HAZMAT (hazardous materials) Division, you have to discover what’s going on inside the base and blast the menace to save the world. Your character races against time: the same virus that is mutating the facility personnel into monsters is also in his organism, slowly transforming him into an inhuman creature under the control of the alien masterminds.

The hero has access to more than ten types of human and alien weapons to fight the creatures. They are designed by Stan Winston Studios, monster creator for such films as Aliens, Jurassic Park and Predator. The weapons can be used in melee combat as well, and it’s possible to switch to an alternate firing mode, in some cases with the downside that it consumes more ammo. Ethan can also use a scanner to investigate items of interest, documents, alien artifacts and residue. The information contributes to the backstory and is stored in the scanner’s databank. …
