Sonic Unleashed

Description

During a fight on one of Dr. Eggman’s spaceships, Sonic becomes caught in a nefarious trap! Eggman uses a device to extract the Chaos Emeralds’ power, and inverts it, sending a blast to the planet below which shatters Earth into pieces, reawakening a being called Dark Gaia. With Sonic no longer of use to him, Dr. Eggman quickly jettisons him and the now dead Chaos Emeralds into space, where he crash-lands on the Earth below.

Sonic Unleashed is a combination of two types of games: during daytime stages, Sonic is his normal self, with intense speed-based levels that are reminiscent of his original games. When night falls, Sonic transforms into a monstrous, yet powerful ‘Werehog’ with stretchy arms. In nighttime stages, he must brawl his way through 3D environments crawling with Dark Gaia’s minions.

As players defeat enemies in both types of stages, they earn experience which allows them to level both Sonic’s normal and Werehog abilities, such as speed, strength, life, combat and so on. There are also 3D hub worlds to be explored during both day and night, with different events occurring in each. Sonic can help the townsfolk with tasks for items and rewards, or purchase items from shops using the rings he’s collected throughout the stages.

Sonic’s buddy Tails also makes an appearance during stages where they fly his plane. During these stages, you must press the appropriate button sequences as they appear to shoot down any oncoming enemies. …

Barnyard

Description

Barnyard is an offering from THQ based on the movie of the same name from Nickelodeon.

You arrive at the farm as a newbie cow and must complete quests and earn respect in order to win keys that allow you to advance through the barnyard map. Movement is accomplished with the WASD or arrow keys, while the mouse controls the camera angle. Other keys access your inventory and the map, allow you to aim and squirt milk at opponents (even when you play as a boy!), and confirm menu selections.

The map is fairly large and there are plenty of things to do beyond the missions and quests your fellow animals assign you. There are places to explore, barrels to break, and minigames like whack-a-raccoon, bowling, and bicycle races.

As you play, you need to keep up your stamina, which decreases as you run around the farm. A good sleep is important; you need to be rested to fight off marauding raccoons and coyotes. And do remember not to let the Farmer catch you standing on two feet! …

Lego Racers

Description

Lego Racers is a racing game played from a third person perspective. Set in the fictional Legoland universe, the game depicts Rocket Racer, the “greatest racing champion” in Legoland. After becoming bored from beating everyone at racing, he decides to create a racing contest, and finds the best racers in the history of Legoland using a dimensional warp machine created by his friend, Veronica Voltage, a genius scientist and mechanic. The player takes on the hosts and co-racers in circuits of races in an attempt to reach and beat Rocket Racer and become the “Greatest Lego Racer of All Time”, completing the game. The circuits are contested by the player, the host, and four co-racers relevant to the themes of the tracks featured. The hosts are, in order, Captain Redbeard, King Kahuka, Basil the Batlord, Johnny Thunder, Baron Von Barron, Gypsy Moth, and Rocket Racer himself. In the first six circuits, there are a total of 12 unique tracks, four per circuit, and three per one of four themes: Castle, Pirates, Space, and Adventurers. The later three circuits revisit the tracks from the first three in reverse order with each track now mirrored. The final circuit consists of only one track: Rocket Racer Run, but still features four co-racers relevant to the previous tracks’ themes.

Players assume the role of either one of several pre-built or custom-built minifigures and compete against other minifigure characters in races set across different tracks in the Legoland universe, using a variety of cars built out of Lego. At the beginning of each race, the player can perform a “Turbo Start”, which allows the player to start the race at full speed. Throughout races, the player can also perform power slides and “Super Slides”, which allow the player’s car to turn around corners more sharply. …
