de Blob 2

Description

de Blob 2’s story starts off with the central location, Prisma City, and its upcoming general election following the events of the first game. A mysterious priest called Papa Blanc deviously plans to rig the elections in order to gain power. Once successful, it is revealed that he is in fact working for the evil corporation from previous games, The INKT Corporation. With this success, he begins to drain colour from the cities as well as the inhabitants, in order to uniform the world in a total lack of colour and uniqueness. It is up to our hero Blob and the members of the Colour Underground to restore the city to its vibrant former glory. Blob frees the lands one by one, rescuing and reuniting friends along the way. It is his mission to restore the world to colour, free the population, and stop the mysterious INKT Corporation once again.

Unlike the original de Blob console version the sequel is multi-platform. As such the controls have been wildly updated, no longer making use of the Wii motion controls, in favour of a more standardised console control scheme. The same colour changing mechanics from the first game return, Blob is given/finds a paint colour and absorbs it into his body. What follows is a platforming, sliding style of gameplay as he paints the world these various colours. Another first for the series is a competitive multiplayer mode, where up to two Blobs fight to paint the world quickest, and accrue points in doing so. The game can also be played cooperatively with the character Pinky who provides assistance. …

Super Mario 64

Description

Mario is invited to Peach’s castle, but when he arrives Peach is nowhere to be seen. He soon learns from Toad that Bowser has once again kidnapped her. The Koopa King has also put a spell on her castle, imprisoning her subjects. So it is up to Mario to break the spell and rescue Peach.

Super Mario 64 is the first Mario game done entirely with 3D graphics. The core gameplay is similar to previous platform installments, focusing on jumping, avoiding obstacles, and defeating enemies. Levels can be explored without time limits. Stars must be collected in order to unlock new areas, eventually gaining access to various parts of Bowser’s castle. Defeating Bowser on each floor procures keys necessary to unlock big doors and enter other floors, which contain more areas.

Mario has more moves at his disposal in this installment. Besides running and jumping, he can now walk, crouch, crawl, climb, and punch enemies. Double and triple jumps, long jumps, wall jumps, and backflips can be executed as well. Swimming underwater now depletes Mario’s oxygen level. Items must be picked up and carried in some instances in order to solve puzzles. …

Pandemonium 2

Description

In this sequel to Pandemonium, the player once again controls the young aspiring sorceress Nikki and the court jester Fargus with his puppet buddy Sid. It is the year of Cheese, and the advent of the Comet of Infinite Possibilities is foretold by the great prophet Nosewasinit. Naturally, Nikki and Fargus are interested in this comet; but they are not the only ones. The evil Goon Queen Zorrscha wants to use the comet for her own plans, so our heroes have to reach it first…

The gameplay is similar to that of the first game; despite the 3D graphics, the gameplay mechanics are those of 2D platformers. The player can select Nikki or Fargus for each level. Each of the two has different abilities. For example, Nikki can jump higher, while Fargus can use his puppet Sid for a variety of attacks. The characters can also acquire power-ups, such as fire and lightning ranged attacks for Nikki or various Sid enhancements for Fargus. There are also level-specific items and vehicles the heroes will encounter on their way. …

Pandemonium

Description

The young sorceress Nikki, the court jester Fargus, and his side-kick Sid the puppet are the three main protagonists of this 3D platform game. While attending a “Wizards in Training” seminar, Nikki accidentally casts a powerful magic spell, which results in a giant monster swallowing the whole village. The three friends must now travel to a place called “Wishing Engine”, and be granted a wish to revert the world back to normal.

The characters each have a special movement to kill enemies with. The game uses floating camera angles through a vast Prince of Persia-style world. The goal of the game is to clear the various levels, avoiding spikes and enemies and collecting coins for extra lives.

Unlike most 3D platformers, Pandemonium offers only two-dimensional movement, rather than complete freedom of movement. The characters move along a curving 2D course within a 3D environment. …

Rayman Legends

Description

Rayman Legends is a 2D platform game and a sequel to Rayman Origins. After the events of the previous game Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies went to a century-long sleep. During that time new nightmares have appeared in the world and the Magician (who was defeated in Rayman Origins) has been split into five dark teensies. These nightmares and dark teensies have captured the princesses of the land (including a new playable character Barbara) and other teensies. Naturally, Rayman and his friends are awoken once again to right the wrongs.

Rayman Legends retains the graphical style and most gameplay elements of Rayman Origins. Up to four players can simultaneously progress through side-scrolling levels defeating enemies and collecting Lums. On each level, there is a number of teensies to rescue and that opens up new levels and worlds. All the powers from the previous game (wall-running, air gliding, etc.) are available to the characters from the start, but some new gimmicks are added, for example, the ability to fire projectiles on some levels. Murfy the greenbottle appears on some levels to aid the players. With a press of a button, he operates machinery, pokes bigger enemies, and opens up passages for the characters. In some versions of the game, the fifth player can control Murphy’s movement. …
