Heroes of Might & Magic III

Description

Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia takes place long after the ending of Heroes of Might and Magic II: Price of Loyalty and partially concurrently with Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven. Receiving news of her father’s death, Catherine Ironfist, Queen of Enroth, sails for Erathia to attend her father’s funeral. Fearing the worst, she assembles a military fleet as her escort. Arriving on the coast of Erathia, Catherine finds an allied wizard’s tower, devastated from battle and abandoned. There she learns Erathia is falling to its enemies. Mustering local armies, Catherine marches to Erathia’s capitol, restoring lost land along the way.

The Restoration of Erathia retains the bulk of the gameplay from its predecessors, with significant additions and modifications. It features 8 entirely distinct towns with 7 creature levels each, but this time all creature levels (save for neutral-only ones) can be upgraded. Also new are war machines, a total of 122 artifacts, overhauled spell list, new and edited map locations, an alignment mechanic which affects interaction with some of the map locations and spells, and 7 single-player campaigns with a vast set of single scenarios which can be played against the AI or other human players. …

Baldur’s Gate II – Shadows of Amn

Description

Some time after the events described in Baldur’s Gate, the protagonist and his friends Imoen, Minsc and Jaheira have been captured by an elven mage called Jon Irenicus. His intentions and connection to the heroes unknown, Irenicus conducts experiments on them, holding them in cages somewhere in his vast underground complex. However, at that moment several wizards arrive and arrest both Irenicus and Imoen for unlicensed use of magic. The first task at hand is to raise the money needed to rescue Imoen, before facing Irenicus again and unraveling his true goals.

Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn is a party-based role-playing game using the AD&D rules. The basic gameplay is similar to that of its predecessor: the player navigates a party of up to six active combatants over isometric environments, conversing with non-playable characters using branching dialogue, and fighting enemies in real-time, free-movement combat that can be paused to issue specific orders to the characters. World traveling now occurs by selecting locations on a map rather than exploring wilderness areas to reach the destination. However, the game world is larger than in the previous game, with more individual locations to visit and side quests to perform. …

Heroes of Might & Magic – A Strategic Quest

Description

Heroes of Might and Magic is a turn-based strategy game in which the player takes on the role of one of four different heroes: the warlock, sorceress, barbarian, or knight. As the hero the player must build up his or her castle by adding different buildings to earn different units to strengthen the hero’s army with. Units include dragons, cyclopes, phoenixes, paladins, and many more fantasy creatures. Buildings and units cost money and resources. Buildings can also be upgraded to unlock new unit types.

Another aspect of the game is exploring the world and discovering treasures, spells, mines to gather resources, nomad camps, magic lamps, ultimate artifacts, and more. The game uses a top down map in which the player can move his heroes a number of spaces each turn. Whenever the player encounters an enemy hero or castle a battle is shown in a close-up view.

During battles all the player’s units are shown as stacks. The player can move these stacks around on a hexagonal grid. Different units have different movement and attack capabilities requiring different strategies to use and overcome. …

Heroes of Might & Magic IV

Description

As the fourth installment of the series, Heroes of Might and Magic IV brings many new features to the game while retaining the old interface design and gameplay.

The game still is about exploring huge maps with heroes and armies, collecting treasures, building up cities, fighting monsters and defeating foes. There are six new and large campaigns and 24 single scenarios to play, all set in the Axeoth world to which many have escaped after the world-ending disaster in Enroth known as the Reckoning, shortly after the events of Heroes Chronicles: The Sword of Frost.

Towns and interracial alliances have been redone. Units are now split to 4 levels, with each town having two buildable unit types per level; however, after the first level, each town has to decide which dwelling to construct, discarding the other unless another town of the same type is found. Towns now also have caravan buildings, which can transfer units and resources between towns and allied players. Individual units can now traverse the map without heroes (including neutral ones, if such a setting is enabled), and heroes who perish in battle can be resurrected if their body is taken to a friendly town, while those who are defeated by an enemy player can be taken to a prison. …

Beyond Divinity

Description

When Lucian the Divine defeated the evil organization known as the Black Ring, he was late to prevent a dark ritual from happening: the soul of the Lord of Chaos was summoned into the body of an innocent boy. Unable to slay the boy, Lucian adopted him and raised him as his own son, naming him Damian. When Damian was fifteen, a young witch called Ygerna seduced him and taught him the ways of magic, hoping to unlock the evil powers contained within him. Lucian killed Ygerna with his own hand, and Damian was unable to forgive him. In order to stop him from unleashing his wrath on the world, Lucian had to seal Damian’s memories and prevent him from returning to Rivellon.

A few years later, a group of paladins of the Divine order was fighting a powerful necromancer from the Black Ring. The necromancer summoned a demon called Samuel, who killed all the paladins but one. The survivor was imprisoned, awaiting torture, when a mysterious armor-clad creature calling himself the Death Knight appeared in his cell. Death Knight told the paladin that Samuel soul-forged them together, apparently as a punishment for something he did. The two must first escape the prison and eventually find a way to break the soul-forging. …
