WarCraft – Orcs & Humans

Description

The Kingdom of Azeroth was relatively peaceful and ruled by King Llane. That was until a powerful mage named Medivh commanded forces that opened up a portal in the Swamp of Sorrow, leading to another world. This ushered in the Age of Chaos, as Orcs were summoned to this world and attempted to establish an empire. As the Orcish hordes swarmed from the portal, they met with the Humans of Azeroth and battles ensured. Peaceful co-existence is not an option. Only one race will attain dominance over the land.

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is the first real-time fantasy strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment. By playing either the Humans or the Orcs in this saga, two separate story lines evolve with 12 scenarios per side telling the tale of the battle for Azeroth. Players must mine gold and chop wood in order to construct buildings and create new units. From swords to sorcery, all the elements of classic fantasy are here to explore: rich forests, dark dungeons and bubbling swamps await the stalwart troops amassed to fight for dominance. Command many unique armies and creatures including Knights, Archers, Clerics, Warlocks, Daemons, Elementals, and Necromancers who are able to raise the dead. …

Rome – Total War

Description

370 BC. A select group of influential families have united Italy under the Roman banner. It is time for them to turn their eyes outward. You will be leading one of these families of Rome (Julii, Scipii, Brutii) for more than three centuries in an attempt to conquer most of the known world. The Julii are in control of northern Italy and they are very close to the borders of Gaul lands and the remainder of Europe. The Scipii are in control of southern Italy and Sicily. They are facing the Carthaginian people, who are one of the prime powers in the Mediterranean. And the last family, the Brutii hold the eastern part of Italy. They have already set their eyes on Greece and Macedonia, the most advanced civilizations of the ancient era. No matter which you will be choosing, your faction’s ambitions will ultimately lead you to open war against the Senate and the other Roman factions.

The game, true to the Total War series, lets you manage your empire and armies in turn-based mode. In the Imperial Campaign you command the movement of your armies and generals on a regional map comprised of Europe, northern Africa and the Middle East, managing cities, hiring spies and mercenaries and using diplomats where your military might can’t reach. When the time comes to war, the game takes you to a 3D real-time environment where you control your army directly on the field of battle and you can employ different formations and tactics using the units’ individual advantages (killing from a distance with archers, chasing routing enemies or flanking with cavalry etc.). Both modes of play let you make strategical decisions that affect your entire game. Each civilization you conquer will be added as a new playable faction. After finishing the game you will be able to choose from all the playable factions. The game has some pre-arranged historical battles for those who want a quick fight. These are the same 3D real-time battles but with pre-determined forces. …

Furthermore, a second alien species, the enigmatic Protoss, became intent on stopping the Zerg. The Protoss solution, however, is to extinguish all life on Zerg-infested planets, including many surviving resident Terrans. At the same time, rebel factions within the Terran government are gaining popular support during the Zerg crisis. The time for war has come!

Gameplay in StarCraft has clear similarities to Blizzard’s earlier WarCraft II. Building units requires credits and a power source, and once completed you can direct them into combat against foes. You only know the layout of terrain you have visited, and only the exact whereabouts of enemy units which are range for one of your units, due to the Fog of War. …

At the same time, the Taar, a mysterious alien race that lost their homeworld many centuries ago, has decided to take Mars as their new home.

As the war between the two species erupts, the player has to choose his side and lead his people to ultimate domination over the red planet. Things become even more complicated when the ruins of an extinct ancient civilization are found on Mars, revealing immensely destructive weapons that could easily turn the tide of the war in favor of the faction that manages to gain control over them first.

Dark Colony is a real-time strategy with heavy emphasis on the actual combat. Resource gathering, base construction and unit production have been made as simple and fast as possible, allowing the player to focus on decimating the enemy armies. Ancient artifacts, available in some of the missions, provide unique options for beating the odds, even when they seem to be against you (and they often will). …

Commandos – Behind Enemy Lines

Description

The setting is World War II, and England has made and trained a small group of special elite forces called ‘commandos’. These commandos are specially trained to take on the most crucial and risky missions. These men are sent in to covertly take out installations, sabotage plans, assassinate leaders, and cause as much disruption to the enemies of the free world.

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is essentially a puzzle game at heart. It is your job to lead a team of six men throughout 20 missions across the entire WWII theater. You will deal with missions in the North African Desert, Italy, France, and even in Norway. Strategy is a key element because you are vastly outnumbered in most missions. Stealth is emphasized, because if the alarm is sounded, the mission gets much harder. The amount of guards will double and sometimes they will bring in reinforcements for every enemy you kill. Guns are rarely used, and stealth kills are preferred over noisy messes …

Commandos – Beyond the Call of Duty

Description

Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty is a standalone mission pack for Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. All six commandos from the original game are back, and have some new weapons and abilities at their disposal. The most prominent addition are the new non-lethal weapons (chloroform for the Spy, fists for the Green Beret, the club for the Driver etc.), which give players the ability to silently, but temporarily disable enemy guards. The Green Beret and the Spy can cuff unconscious enemies to immobilize them, and the Spy can even steal their uniforms. All commandos can control captured guards and use them as a distraction while keeping them at gunpoint, but the guards must not leave the controlling commando’s field of view, else they will flee and raise the alarm.

Eight new and difficult missions are featured, taking place between 1940 and 1945 in various locations in Nazi-occupied Europe. The mission maps are even more detailed than in the original game, and leave little space for error. There are some mission-specific controllable characters as well (Yugoslav partisan Dragiša Skopje and Ukrainian spy Natasha). …
