Description

On the world of Carver V, the FedCom civil war between House Davion and House Steiner threatens to pull plenty of innocent bystanders into the maelstorm… It also offers plenty of opportunities for a veteran mercenary commander… Such as yourself.

MechCommander 2 is a game of real-time tactical mech combat, and a sequel to the original MechCommander. Take on missions from your employer(s).

Once you have selected a mission, you need to outfit your mechs. You can purchase new mechs if you have enough C-Bills, but most of your acquisitions will come from salvage of downed mechs. You can then refit the mechs by changing its loadout to customize for the pilot.

After you have chosen your mechs and properly outfitted them, it’s time to assign your pilots. Each pilot can have zero or more specialties, depending on experience level, and those skills can significantly increase his or her effectiveness. It takes good planning to match the right mech to the right pilot. …

Heroes Chronicles

Description

First in a series of shorter, story-driven games based on the Heroes of Might and Magic III engine. Each game consists of a single campaign recounting an important period in the life of Tarnum, the immortal hero.

Warlords is billed as a “prequel,” telling the story of Tarnum’s quest to lead his barbarian peoples to throw off the oppressive rule of Bracaduun and the Wizards who are his master. However, as the intro gives away, while Tarnum will become King, in doing so he will commit crimes that cause the ancestors to refuse him admission to paradise, and he will be returned as the immortal hero of the next episode (Conquest of the Underworld).

The campaign consists of eight scenarios, with Tarnum carrying his experience forward from scenario to scenario. The game plays exactly like Heroes III: Shadow of Death (three scenarios include combination artifacts). The story advances during each scenario through frequent text pop-ups. There are also movies for every scenario, instead of just one per campaign. In keeping with the plot, the early scenarios have only Stronghold and Fortress towns, with Castle and Tower towns showing up later. …

Heroes of Might & Magic IV

Description

As the fourth installment of the series, Heroes of Might and Magic IV brings many new features to the game while retaining the old interface design and gameplay.

The game still is about exploring huge maps with heroes and armies, collecting treasures, building up cities, fighting monsters and defeating foes. There are six new and large campaigns and 24 single scenarios to play, all set in the Axeoth world to which many have escaped after the world-ending disaster in Enroth known as the Reckoning, shortly after the events of Heroes Chronicles: The Sword of Frost.

Towns and interracial alliances have been redone. Units are now split to 4 levels, with each town having two buildable unit types per level; however, after the first level, each town has to decide which dwelling to construct, discarding the other unless another town of the same type is found. Towns now also have caravan buildings, which can transfer units and resources between towns and allied players. Individual units can now traverse the map without heroes (including neutral ones, if such a setting is enabled), and heroes who perish in battle can be resurrected if their body is taken to a friendly town, while those who are defeated by an enemy player can be taken to a prison. …
