In this page you will find essential & important software that every computer should have.
The following software is runtime which is required to actually make the games work.

Last updated: February 6, 2025

  • Latest drivers for your graphics card

First of all, make sure that your computer is using the latest drivers for your graphics card. Do not rely on the Windows Update automatic driver installation as it tends to install older and/or broken drivers which may result in game crashes even if a repack has been made to work 110%. Visit below the appropriate links for your graphic card manufacturer:

Nvidia
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/
(Use the Manual searching instead of the GeForce Experience and also it’s recommended to NOT install it)

AMD
https://www.amd.com/en/support

Intel
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/products/80939/graphics.html

If you are unsure which graphics card model you have, download GPU-Z from the below link. This little tool will also help you learn if your graphics card supports DirectX 12 which will be useful later for some repacks.
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

If you have a processor which has integrated graphics for example AMD Radeon and also you have a dedicated graphics card for example Nvidia, install both drivers.

Side note: Intel has dropped native DirectX 9 (DX9) support for integrated graphics on its 12th Gen chips as well as Arc discrete GPUs, so, many, many games will not work at all if you have that kind of hardware.

  • qBittorrent (The (best) torrent client, use this to download games from this site!)

https://www.qbittorrent.org/

  • 7-Zip (Use this to extract my releases)

https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

  • Direct X redistributables – June 2010 (Required by almost all games)

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

  • Visual C++ redistributables (2002 – 2022 + Older VB6 runtimes) (32 & 64bit)
    (Used by almost all programs)

https://github.com/abbodi1406/vcredist/releases

  • Enable DirectPlay on Windows 10/11 (Direct X component, used by many older games)

In start menu type: control appwiz.cpl,,2
Enable DirectPlay as follows:
Click OK and restart your system.

  • Enable/Disable legacy Indeo video/audio codecs

Indeo codecs are used to play cutscenes/videos in some old games, Micro$haft has disabled those codecs since Windows Vista, but the .dll files seems to be present inside system folder (atleast on Windows 10). Just import the registry file to enable or disable them

  • Disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP)

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a technology built into Windows that helps protect you from executable code launching from places it’s not supposed to, as well as it prevents you from running legitimate games in some cases. Games either crash or don’t launch at all in scenarios where DEP is enabled for all applications. Since you have an antivirus, it’s not that big of a deal to have DEP completely disabled. To do that, in start menu type cmd or command prompt and run it as administrator, type in the following:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

Press Enter and then reboot your system. Done. If it says that the operation cannot be completed then you need to turn off Secure Boot in your BIOS/UEFI !!

Install .NET Framework 3.5 & 4.8.1

.NET Framework is used by some game tools which aid in the patching of games.
In start menu type: control appwiz.cpl,,2
Enable .NET Framework 3.5 as follows:

Alternately on Windows 7 download the offline installer & install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/net35-sp1
Then download & install .NET Framework 4.8.1 from here:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/net481

  • K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (Optional but highly recommended, does NOT include the legacy Indeo codecs)

This codec pack includes all audio/video codecs (except Indeo) to play video & audio. Might be needed for some games. Regularly updated & maintained. It also includes the LAV Splitter which will conflict/break/distort some audio/video in some games but there is a simple fix for this. All you have to do is to blacklist the game executable in the LAV splitter’s registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\LAV\Audio\Blacklist]
“EXAMPLE.exe”=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\LAV\Video\Blacklist]
“EXAMPLE.exe”=dword:00000001

Rename the EXAMPLE with the name of your game’s executable, save this in a .reg text file and import it.

  • Enable the legacy Windows Media Player

While nobody uses it anymore for media playback (close to nobody), some older games still require it for video/cutscene playback! In start menu type: control appwiz.cpl,,2 and enable it as follows:

  • Microsoft XML Parser v4.0 SP3 Runtime (Used to display text in games such as Halo 1)

https://www.mediafire.com/file/pzddal3p4mwk27p/MSXML_4.0_SP3.msi/file

  • XNA Framework redistributables (v1 to v4) (Used by games such as Terraria)

  • Revo Uninstaller (Dedicated software uninstaller which also removes leftover files)

https://www.revouninstaller.com/

  • Games for Windows Live v3.5.56 (Used by some modern games that use Windows Live, usually my releases don’t need this, but I put it here for consistency)

  • Nvidia PhysX System Software v9.23.1019 + Legacy PhysX v9.13 (Used by some games)

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx-system-software/

  • QuickTime v7.7.9 (Used by some games such as “The X-Files – The Game” Note: You don’t need to install the actual player, since it is pretty much obsolete nowadays, just install the first component as shown below in the picture)

  • Xpadder (Maps keyboard buttons to any external gamepad, as long as it can be seen by Windows)

Use this for games (or just about any other software), that don’t support gamepads or don’t work at all with your gamepad
https://xpadder.com/

  • DAEMON Tools (For playing my NoCrack releases on older Windows (7, XP, 2000, 98, 95)

This is only meant for older OSes, if you have Windows 10, then you don’t need this since those versions included are not compatible with Win10.
WARNING: Your antivirus might flag some files as PUPs or malware, it is a false alarm. I stand by my word that it won’t harm your computer!
